New Hope
Dare I say it? New Hope, Pennsylvania, located in beautiful and historic Bucks County, enjoys national acclaim. Well-known publications have featured the town; widely released movies and TV shows have been made here…and the Bucks County Playhouse is an area entertainment staple. Located along the Delaware River, this community quietly boasts eclectic shopping, fantastic riverside restaurants, and historic as well as cultural sites — all with wide open spaces to spare. And visitors can even stay in fastidiously maintained bed and breakfasts that are the result of converted historic properties.
New Hope may best be known historically as the place where George Washington was said to stay the evening before crossing the Delaware for the storied battle fought that famous Christmas morning. But certainly many others stopped overnight there throughout the early years of our country, as it was the halfway point for travelers moving along Old York Road to get from Philadelphia to New York City (each about 30 miles away).
